Gear Overview

From Forgotten Ruin

The Failing

This is another big, fat warning to the players.

The nano-plague is still around. You know how stuff was failing back home? Yeah, it's going to fail here, eventually. The more advanced or delicate, the sooner it will fail. Fortunately, military stuff is pretty robust, but premature failing of weapons is a real possibility. This extends all modern composites, fancy alloys, and things with circuit boards. But, there is hope, see below.

The Equipment Locker

This is the "normal" stuff that you brought with you. You have a pile of military weapons and equipment. Cool, but pretty normal stuff that you can pick at character creation. You'll also have radios, night vision gear, and the like, as well as (potentially) access to recon drones and mortar support, as mission needs dictate.

Encumbrance

We're using the variant rules on p. 176, PHB. Essentially:

  • <= 5xSTR = no effect.
  • > 5xSTR <= 10xSTR = speed reduced by 10 feet.
  • > 10xSTR = speed reduced by 20 feet, disadvantage on everything related to STR, DEX, and CON.

Additional gear

This is houseruled stuff, outside of the main rules.

Refs:

Built off the Polaris RZR line of utility vehicles, these are adapted for military purposes. Most notably, they run on Diesel and have mounts for 3 light or medium machine guns. They also have a towing capacity of 3500lb.

The DARPA Stuff

Mass Creation Engine

AKA "The Forge"

AKA "The Perpetual Taco Machine"

This is a fancy machine that is, effectively, techno magic. It's hardened against the nano-plague and was the main method by which you were going to be able to help people rebuild. It is essentially a large self-repairing nano-fabricator. It has its own power source which will last longer than you will. It can create anything (yes, anything) from our time smaller than 45 inches tall and wide. Length isn't a concern because it has a conveyor belt type assembly that moves forward as layers are built. You can print pieces and then assemble them, as long as you have the skill to do so.

Limitations

  1. It's big: It's 10 feet wide, 10 feet high, and 20 feet long - which makes it slightly wider and taller than a shipping container.
  2. It's heavy: It weighs 8 tons. Why do you think they put it in a plane?
  3. It's slow: It takes 10 minutes for every pound of mass something weighs.
    1. For example, an M16 weighs 8lbs, so it will take nearly an hour and a half to "print" a rifle.
